WWU testifies against proposed furloughs for faculty and staff
During the first few weeks of the 2021 Legislative Session, WWU has voiced strong opposition to proposals before the legislature that would mandate furloughs for most state employees, including Western faculty and staff, during the 2021-2023 biennium. In addition to testifying against this aspect of the governor’s proposed operating budget, WWU also expressed strong opposition to Senate Bill 5323 last week in the Senate Ways and Means Committee.
The House and Senate budget proposals are likely to be released in mid-March following the next quarterly state revenue forecast, which will provide a clearer picture of what the final state 21-23 biennial budget will look like and whether mandatory furloughs for state employees will be included.
